The
artist’s, Edward Baptista, interest in photography
began at an early age, but it wasn’t until around
the age of 20 that his interest began to develop
into something larger. Though his work consists of
many styles such as landscape, portraits and live
bands, he says his favorite is “portraits with
beautiful landscape in the background.”
Since the age of three, Ed has crisscrossed the
Western Hemisphere traveling mostly between North
and South America. He spent his childhood and
teenage years moving to and from his parent’s
birthplace in Brazil to many places in the United
States. His first residence upon returning from
Brazil at age five was Buffalo, NY where he stayed
until age nine, when he moved back to Brazil for 10
years. He returned to the US where he studied
Psychology at Purdue University in West Lafayette,
Indiana, not long after he moved back to Brazil
where he spent three years and continued his studies
at UFES Brazil. Upon returning to the US he moved to
Miami, Florida then to San Francisco, CA (where his
heart can still be found!), and finally back to
Miami. During his twenties, he found the source of
much of his art when he traveled to Finland, Sweden,
Denmark, The Netherlands, France and other European
countries.
Ed’s deep appreciation for art is evident in his
work and in those around him, as he has surrounded
himself with not only other photographers, but
musicians, writers and many other types of artists
as well. He is also a part of the Deviant Art
Community on the Internet, a forum where he is able
to meet other artists from all over the world.
Though his colleagues appreciate his work, its
“darker side” may intimidate some. He assures them
it’s quite the contrary when he states his belief
that, “DARKNESS is not related to EVIL, but just
another medium.”
